Helping Build Safer Communities

During Police Week, the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) encourages all police services to highlight their service, people, and many accomplishments. Starting in 1970, Police Week coincides with Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is recognized internationally on May 15. We want to celebrate community partnerships. All of us – police, communities, government, businesses, and ordinary citizens – must work together when it comes to public safety, crime prevention, and community engagement.

This year's kick off was held at Driftwood Community Recreation Centre and had many  speakers:

Master of Ceremonies - Mr. Joe Couto, Director, Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police

Toronto City Council Remarks - Mayor John Tory

Toronto Police Services Board Remarks TPSB - Chair, Mr. Jim Hart

Toronto Police Service Remarks - A/Deputy Chief Kim Yeandle

Guest Speaker - Mr. Jeff McGuire, Executive Director, Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police

Keynote Speaker - Mr. Mark Tenaglia, Civilian Co-Chair, 31 Division CPLC (Community Police Liaison Committee)

This year’s provincial theme is “Your Police Services: Helping Build Safer Communities”. The theme provides an opportunity to use social media, or other online platforms, to showcase the great work of police services across Ontario. It also emphasizes the importance of ongoing collaboration between police and community partners to support a holistic approach to service delivery and response efforts.

Thank you to everyone who came out to La Barista Cafe on Wednesday April 23. It was great to see so many community members come out and connect over some coffee to talk about a shared vision for our community.
